The arrival of the troops in Asaba. Many interviewees described the mood in Asaba in the first few days of October, 1967, as the federal troops began to arrive. Some people were afraid, especially those who knew about or had experienced the killings of Igbo people in the north. Others were not, believing that the soldiers would simply pass through the town, and trusting that civilians would never be hurt.
